Azlan UK boss made 'redundant' amid restructure

Gareth Hansford confirms split, looks for next role in channel

Tech Data (TD) UK has restructured its Azlan enterprise tech business unit, taking out the top dog Gareth Hansford in a cost cutting shimmy.

The industry veteran left this month, the start of the distie’s new fiscal year, and the decision to make him redundant came after analysis of the books.

Hansford confirmed to The Channel his departure:

“Following planning for the new year, Tech Data restructured and made my role redundant,” he said. The former IBM exec plans to continue working in the channel.

“I learnt a lot from the inside of distribution,” he added.

As a result, the respective heads of the HP, Cisco, IBM and software teams - Andy Dow, Gary Lloyd, Rob Tomlin and Sarah Deller respecitvley - will report directly to TD UK head Andy Gass.

Hansford joined Azlan in August 2013 almost a year after TD’s acquisition of SDG for $350m. He filled a role that was left vacant following the exit of Nigel Dunne.

Prior to Azlan, Hansford had several spells in senior positions at IBM and previosuly ran Lenovo UK.

TD refused to comment. ®
