Avnet TS names vet Zammit as global el presidente

Man from Brussels dispatched to improve distie's fortunes

management cio1

Patrick Zammit, the latest exec to grab global control of Avnet Technology Solutions (ATS), will be close at hand from his Brussels base to mastermind a sustained growth plan in EMEA, something that continues to elude the firm.

A former senior auditor at Arthur Anderson - like many beanies now working in the channel - Zammit rocked up at Avnet in 1993 during which time he has worked in finance, and operations and ran the Electronics Marketing sister division in EMEA.

In a canned statement, Avnet Inc CEO Rick Hamada, said the new global president for ATS is the “right leader to take advantage of new opportunities for profitable growth”.

Hamada claimed that at Electronics Marketing, Zammit beefed up profits in EMEA and captured market share from rivals in the semiconductor and Interconnect, Passive and Electromechanical (IP&E) product markets.

The same will clearly be expected of the new man at ATS, which has had a couple of uneasy years, particularly in EMEA, as numerous acquisitions made to plug gaps in service provision failed to ignite top line growth engines.

The distributor's EMEA arm ended fiscal ’11 (August that year) with sales of $3.57bn but has since seems its fortunes shrink, closing off fiscal ’14 with sales of $3.2bn.

The challenges faced by Avnet - the cloud, eroding product margins - are not unique to the company, but it seems to be finding a solutions to those pressures harder to come by.

Zammit replaces Phil Gallagher who resigned from the global president post at ATS last September. ®
