PlayStation outage: Sony asks 'have you tried turning it off and on again?'
*Sigh*
Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) continues to give users headaches, as many are still unable to access the service with their consoles.
Sony blamed a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack for a the protracted outage that plagued its service on Christmas Day, but by Saturday it seemed to indicate that the worst of it was over.
On Monday, however, the company said that it was being swamped with support requests from PS4 owners who remain unable to access PSN. The reports continued through much of the day and into the early evening.
Sony's first advice to affected customers was the tried and true "turn it off and on again" tech support meme.
PS4 users: If you are still having issues signing in to PSN today, please reboot the console and try again.

It later asked gamers to hold back on support calls and only contact it via Twitter, support forums, and other means if their consoles couldn't get into its online service.
If you're trying to reach us by phone or chat, there are very high volumes right now. Other contact methods to try: http://t.co/Xv81coMv04

Sony later suggested that the problem could be due to bad maximum transmission unit (MTU) networking settings and has posted a guide for users on how to correct the issue. But not everyone who has tried it has had success.
Well #psn is taking another nose dive. Had to revert the MTU work around to get it partially working, but it's not good. @AskPlayStation

If this latest chapter in the outage does prove to be a continuation of the Christmas DDoS attack, however, it will be another defeat for Mega's Kim Dotcom, who on Saturday claimed to have reached an agreement with the Lizard Squad hacking collective that there will be no more attacks against PSN or Xbox Live. Xbox Live, meanwhile, appears to be running fine. ®
