No wristjob, please, we're Apple fans: Just 10% would buy the Apple Watch

Don't scoff, though, that's still 24 million units – analyst

Apple's new Watch device is going to sell itself on the basis of appealing to 10 per cent of the fanboi population, according to analysts.

Research firm UBS claims that one in ten Apple iPhone owners would be willing to pony up for the fruity wristthing.

According to the UBS report, some 10 per cent of iPhone owners were classified as "very likely" to buy the new iThing, with another 18 per cent classifying themselves as "somewhat likely" to purchase the fruitwatch.

While not exactly the best news for Apple, the estimate would put the company on target to net a hefty 24 million units sold. The company has placed the Watch as a device that will net a tidy profit with a hefty retail asking price.

With a cost reportedly ranging from $350 to $5,000 the Apple wristslab would not need to sell in droves in order to make a nice return for Tim Cook & Co.

That hasn't dampened the company's spirits, however. The house that the Steves built is reportedly gearing up to sell as many as 50 million Watches in the first year of availability.

The ambitious order for iStuff could lead to disappointment for Apple. The company's flagship iPhone line amassed a total of 40 million units shipped in the last quarter, while smartwatches fared even worse with Samsung netting less than 1,000 units shipped per day on its attempt at a smartwatch launch. ®
