Tesla confirms Australian launch date

Will detail showroom, charging plans on December 9

Tesla, which earlier this year started scouting around for charging stations in Australia and has also popped up with displays in at least one Sydney mall, has confirmed December for its official launch.

Renew Economy reckons the Sydney December 9 launch will include early Model S deliveries and announcements about where it will be putting its showrooms and first charging stations.

The company held a recruiting open day at the end of October, as noted by Motoring.com.au, seeking engineers willing to head for California to work on everything from body and interior design through to crash safety.

While the move might daunt some potential applicants, the impending closure of Australia's General Motors Holden, Ford and Toyota vehicle plants is going to create a pool of possible hires. Australian-trained engineers would be useful in localisation, both for aesthetic and homologation purposes.

In August, Tesla told Vulture South it had begun the planning process for its Supercharger stations. ®
