Ex-EMC exec to head up SDN switch vendor Plexxi

Rich Napolitano hired to scale-up the scale-out biz

SDN switch vendor Plexxi has snapped up the former head of EMC's VNX storage array business, Rich Napolitano, as CEO.

Founder and board member David Husak remains with the company as EVP of strategy and engineering, and has been working with Napolitano for some time, since the latter has been on the Plexxi board.

In the company's complete-with-analyst-canned-quote announcement, Husak says Napolitano's role will be to scale up the company, saying “When I founded Plexxi, I fully anticipated the transition from building the technology to taking it broadly to market”.

As well as his job as president of EMC's Unified Storage Array business, Napolitano has held executive roles with Sun Microsystems, Pirus Networks (where he was CEO prior to its acquisition by Sun), and Data Kinesis (CEO until its acquisition by Adaptec).

Plexxi's focus is its SDN-controlled optical Ethernet data centre switch and SDN controller software. ®
