ONE MILLION people already running Windows 10

A third of them are doing it in VMs, but early feedback focuses on frippery

One Windows: Windows 10 will be delivered on multiple device types

Microsoft has revealed that a million people have signed up for the Windows Insider Program it is using to offer early access to Windows 10 for those willing to test the operating system's early iterations.

Of those crash test dummies, Redmond says 36 per cent are running the OS in a virtual machine. That leaves about 650,000 people running Windows 10 on bare metal.

Microsoft says “Insiders” have delivered “over 200,000” pieces of feedback. If the list of most-requested features Microsoft has presumably allowed to reach Paul Thurrott's Supersite for Windows is any guide, feedback is not coming from sysadmins: most requests concern minor UI tweaks and aesthetics, although “Make it easier to use a local account” is the third-most-requested new feature.

Microsoft's not saying when the feedback will result in a new release of the OS, or when it will go on sale. ®
