AndroidScript returns to Google Play Store: Ad giant YIELDS TO THE MIGHT OF EL REG

Mountain View grovels before Vulture's claws

Hurrah! It woz the Reg wot won it ...

An educational app used by thousands of young science, technology, engineering and maths students is set to be reinstated by Google, just one day after we revealed that it had been yanked without warning from the company's Play Store.

Dave Smart, the creator behind AndroidScript, got in touch to tell us the good news.

He said that the app would be renamed to DroidScript and added that it would reappear on Google's Play Store within the next few hours.

Smart was worried that Google's seemingly reckless actions would lead to him having to start over from scratch with the app, which had been downloaded more than 50,000 times and is used by around 20,000 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students worldwide.

Google has now relented, however.

Smart told Vulture Central:

Thank you very much for letting people know about our predicament. I don't think we could have done it without you :)

We are relieved that Google has reconsidered and given us the time to make the changes required to meet their terms and conditions.

We are going to re-brand as "DroidScript" and be more wary of such legal pitfalls in the future!

A heart-warming Friday afternoon tale, we're sure you'll agree. ®
