Westcon: 'What we need is a cloud brokerage biz.' One buyout later...

Parent firm Datatec splashes $12m on Verecloud, promises bolt-on to distie

Tech group Datatec has hoovered up a second biz this week after confirming the $12m acquisition of US-based fluffy white services brokerage Verecloud.

The buy will be bolted onto distribution subsidiary Westcon, days after Datatec’s integrator arm Logicalis hoovered up German software firm ituma.

The cloudy rig that Veracloud developed 18 months ago aggregates services from vendors and allows resellers or their customers to manage them from a single portal.

This type of model is not unique in reseller land, let alone in distribution - Arrow and Ingram were both relatively early starters - but allows enterprise distie Westcon to fill an obvious gap in its portfolio.

The Veracloud “platform” will be rolled into Westcon’s cloud solutions practice and forms the basis for its “go-to-market” strategy to rake in money from selling compute in a different way.

Westcon has consolidated some services businesses internally and across Datatec, acquiring sister company Intact Integrated Services earlier this year.

Despite other iterations of cloud brokerage services on the market, Datatec’s wonderfully named CEO Jens Montanana, said Verecloud has developed a “truly differentiated cloud go-to-market capability”.

Apparently, Verecloud’s brokerage model is “well positioned to leverage the potential that cloud has for technology vendors, and for resellers to broaden their service solutions”.

Sound like marketing gloss... anyone?

No financials for Colorado-based Verecloud - which sells services from firms including IBM’s Softlayer and Microsoft Sharepoint - were immediately available for the privately held company that was founded in 2006. ®
