Microsoft changes cert test providers, hints at fun new exams

If you really love taking tests with Prometric, do 'em before Christmas

Intelligent flash storage arrays

Microsoft will part ways with Prometric, the outfit that currently provides exams for some of Redmond's certifications.

Prometric is on the outer as of December 31st, 2014 and Pearson Vue has the gig as of September 4th.

The good news is that if you hold an unexpired, prepaid Prometric exam voucher you can use it at either Prometric or Pearson between now and December 31st. Those Prometric vouchers will also be usable at Pearson Vue in 2015.

But if you really, really, want to sit an exam with Prometric you need to do so before December 31st, 2014, because after that date only Pearson Vue will let you take Redmond's tests.

Microsoft is being cagey about reasons for the change, but an FAQ (PDF) says “Over the months and years ahead, Microsoft plans to introduce other innovations designed to enhance the candidate experience”. The FAQ also says Microsoft is an admirer of Pearson Vue's Certiport online testing facility, so perhaps that's the direction Redmond plans to take.

A last word on privacy: Microsoft says it already holds all the data Prometric and Pearson Vue gather on its behalf and that any personal information about you gathered during the certification process will remain in its care. ®
