MtGox to customers: Your call is important to us … NOT!

Call centre hell awaits Bitcoin's bereft brigades

5 things you didn’t know about cloud backup

Bitcoin owners keen to understand just what failed exchange MtGox may be able to do for them remain in the dark, after the outfit set up a call centre that, so far as The Register can tell, seldom picks up the phone.

MtGox declared bankruptcy last week, taking more than $US400m worth of Bitcoin with it.

Users are understandably keen to learn just what this means for their holdings of digital cash, so would have been interested to learn that on Sunday the outfit posted an update to its website. Here's the update:

Mark Karpeles Representative Director MtGox Co., Ltd. Shibuya 2-11-5

Shibuya-ku, Tokyo ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING AN APPLICATION FOR COMMENCEMENT OF A PROCEDURE OF CIVIL REHABILITATION An overview of the situation should be published here shortly (probably on March 3, 2014 (Japan time)). Contact information A call center has been established to respond to all inquiries. The call center is planned to start on March 3, 2014. All inquiries to MtGox Co., Ltd. should be made to the following telephone number: Telephone number +81 3-4588-3921 Working hours Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm (Japan time) Please refrain from contacting the office of the supervisor/investigator.

Taking advantage of our timezone, Vulture South has spent the afternoon trying to reach that call centre.

Our first two calls were not answered after 15 minutes. Our third call went through quickly and reached a woman who apologised that her English is not good enough to answer our queries and that all the English-speaking members of staff were on other calls. Fair enough, too: Vulture South could not have said as much in Japanese.

Two subsequent calls saw us on hold for more than ten minutes apiece, without reply.

If MtGox updates its site, or answers a call, we'll let you know. ®
