A Chinese techie who was supposed to be fixing a big screen overlooking a public square in Jilin instead accidentally broadcast 10 minutes of a Hong Kong grumble flick over the giant LED telly.
According to the Beeb, Yuan Mou kicked back to admire Forbidden Legend: Sex and Chopsticks on his laptop, blissfully unaware it was connected to the monster display.
After a "surprised public" had copped an eyeful, the screen's owners alerted the unwitting porn pusher, at which point Yuan "unplugged his computer and threw the disc out of the window".
Sadly, this cunning plan to ditch the evidence is unlikely to spare Yuan the consequences of his smut punt. Footage of the outrage quickly surfaced online and he now faces a police investigation.
Forbidden Legend: Sex and Chopsticks goes under the Chinese name Xin Jin Ping Mei, and is apparently based on the 17th Century novel The Plum in the Golden Vase. The written work "focuses on the domestic life of Hsi-men Ch'ing, a corrupt, upwardly mobile merchant in a provincial town, who maintains a harem of six wives and concubines", Princeton University Press explains.
While the book is "known primarily for its erotic realism", it's also "a landmark in the development of the narrative art form".
Whether the celluloid version contributes anything to the cinematic narrative art form is unknown at time of publication, pending further investigation, most likely via a really big TV. ®
