Run the IT in a small biz? Work with Microsoft? Meet your new UK point man

Symantec's loss is Redmond's gain

Microsoft has filled the SME boss role recently vacated by company veteran Clare Barclay with a former Symantec EMEA veep.

Glenn Woolaghan has rocked up as director of the small biz space for the UK after eleven years at Symantec, which is currently going through a cost cutting process.

Most recently he was veep of EMEA SME sales, but it is not clear if he was part of the mass shake-up of the firm as it burns an entire layer of middle management.

During his tenure at Symantec, Woolaghan - a respected figure in the channel - headed the distribution and consumer segments for the firm.

In a canned statement, Barclay, who was crowned queen of Microsoft's UK partner network in April, said her new general has a wealth of SME and channel nous.

Barclay said she is "excited" Woolaghan has joined the the firm and Woolaghan trumped that by being "incredibly excited".

Let's hope the channel shares in that enthusiasm. ®
