Reg readers: So, who will be Who? It's over to you...

Nominations needed for next Time Lord

The news that Matt Smith will walk away from the Tardis at the end of this year has provoked a veritable Gallifrey of speculation as to just who will become the 12th Doctor.

As we noted earlier this week, bookies William Hill favour Harry Potter star Rupert Grint and Russell Tovey from BBC Three's Being Human, naming them joint 10/1 favourites to fill the leading Doctor Who role.

Sherlock star Martin Freeman and Skyfall's Ben Whishaw are also apparently in with a shout, although there's a growing lobby for the first female Doctor.

An obvious candidate is Billie Piper, while Olivia Colman of Broadchurch and Fiona O'Shaughnessy from Utopia have their fans.

Our beloved commentards aren't short on ideas either, as evidenced by their input on the matter.

Among those nominated by Reg readers are John Hurt, Bill Nighy, Sean Pertwee, Philip Glenister, Paterson Joseph, and the list goes on, and on, and on.

Well, we've decided to put the matter to public vote, so get any new nominations in by close of play tomorrow (Thursday) for a reader poll on Friday. Once we've all decided just exactly who should fill Matt Smith's shoes, we'll send the result to Steven Moffat and that will be that.
