Pirate Bay docks in Iceland

Low odds on legal whack-a-mole resuming in Reykjavik real soon now

Remote control for virtualized desktops

The Pirate Bay has found a new home in Iceland.

The tectonically-challenged nation has network information centre, ISNIC, which tends the .IS domain and also performs other unglamorous work necessary to keep bits flowing around the country.

TorrentFreak reports that ISNIC does not concern itself with the activities of those who use domains it registers. That stance means the Pirate Bay's notoriety doesn't scare ISNIC. Vulture South has scoured its Terms and Conditions and registration rules and believes neither contains any verbiage that would stop ISNIC from providing the link-to-dubious-downloads site with domain name services.

The registrar will, however, act if compelled to do so by Iceland's courts. Big Content has played a long game of whack-a-mole with The Pirate Bay, flailing legal hammers in its direction wherever and whenever its head emerges into view. It's hard not to imagine lawyers familiar with the niceties of Iceland's legal system aren't already looking for reasons that would convince Iceland to join other nations and send the The Pirate Bay packing.

Iceland is currently considering a national online smutblocker. If the national mood deems that worthy, perhaps the nation's courts will also take a dim view of The Pirate Bay? ®
