Microsoft 'fesses up to Windows Phone 8 reboot bug

Windows Phone 8 users frustrated by their handsets' tendency to randomly reboot [1] will soon be offered relief, after Redmond 'fessed up to the existence of a problem and promised a patch.

Microsoft let it be known to The Wall Street Journal [2] that it is “continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting and have identified a cause with our partners” and is also “working to get an over-the-air update out in December.”

There's no word on what causes the issue, or whether it affects all Windows Phone 8 handsets or just those from some manufactures.

The bug may seem very sloppy, given Windows Phone 8 has been flagged as such a terribly important contributor to Microsoft's efforts to gain more than a toe-hold in the mobile market.

But let's not forget that Google recently omitted a whole month [3] in one of Android's apps. Apple's also come up with clangers in recent mobile releases, with Maps a farce in iOS 5, antennagate [4] marring the launch of the iPhone 4 and MobileMe and iCloud both underwhelming users.®
