Family sues Foxconn in brain-damaged worker compensation case

Fondleslabricator trying to slash payout, say relatives

Agentless Backup is Not a Myth

The family of the Foxconn worker who lost his brain after a factory accident is taking the tech manufacturer to court over its attempts to move him from his hospital.

Zhang Tingzhen is currently in hospital in Shenzhen, but Foxconn is trying to get him to travel to Huizhou to have his disability assessment because the company claims that's where he was hired. But his father has said that Zhang was hired in Shenzhen, not in Huizhou where wages and therefore his compensation would be lower.

Reuters, which first reported that Foxconn was sending texts to Zhang's parents threatening to cut off funding for his medical expenses if he didn't go to Huizhou, spoke to a lawyer representing the family.

"Our evidence includes hospital correspondences, notice of hospitalisation, factory salary slips, colleague declarations, they all point to the time and place of his injury and his employment being in Shenzhen," the lawyer said.

Chinese firms like Foxconn are coming under increasing pressure to change their labour practices as more instances of underage workers and other rights issues are uncovered. Taking on workers in an area where wages are relatively low and then sending the employees to more expensive cities is a common practice according to labour activists. ®

Now it's "lost his brain"

Now it's "lost his brain" - IT'S GETTING WORSE!

"Nurse Zombie, have you seen anything unusual in the patient's room?"

"Nuuuahg!"

Be careful, or the poor man may become:

1) a political pundit

2) A Microsoft/Apple/Android Shill

How times have changed ... for the better

It wasn't many years ago that Chinese workers injured at work were simply discarded and sent home.

On any scale Foxconn is simply another company exploiting the world's largest labour market. And whether they like it or not, both Foxconn and Apple are tarred with the same brush.

Westerners, for their part, should voice their thoughts to Apple and let one of the world's largest, richest companies know that we care about this man.

Re: Just to summerize...

He probably heard "Foxconn" and "Half a brain" and assumed it was an apple fan in hospital.
