Overheating batteries in portable DVD player could mean fiery lap dances

Retailer Dick Smith Electronics has recalled a nine-inch portable DVD player, pictured below, after the device’s batteries were found represent “… a potential fire hazard.”
The recall notice [1] says the batteries, Lithium Ion affairs, will only reheat “in rare cases”. But that’s surely one case too many given that devices of this type are often placed on viewers laps. 
If you own the afflicted machine, which is formally known as the “Dick Smith 9" Portable DVD/Media Player” and goes by catalogue number D6202 and Australian Product Number 9315999144934, take it back to a Dick Smith outlet where instant refunds are on offer. ®
