Chick-lit naughty girl MP Mensch starts own web-jabber service
Politishn's 'menshn' reaps exploshn of derishn
You read it here first, courtesy of our top Shoreditch-'til-I-die columnist Steve Bong : Tory chick-lit MP Louise Mensch - a serial user of Twitter - has now launched her own chatroom-cum-microblogging service.
Menshn.com - pronounced "Mention" - is intended for political debate. To begin with it's only available in America and will initially cover the US election with sections of the site dedicated to the Barack Obama and Mitt Romney campaigns. It's expected to have a UK version in time for the London 2012 Olympics that begin next month.
Menshn is not attempting to compete with Twitter, Mensch tweets .
She wants her site, which was founded with one-time Tony Blair flack Luke Bozier, to remain "on topic" about specific political conversations.
"With all the great political forums out there, we noticed that there was no place to talk about politics live," Bozier said.
"Whereas Twitter is not organised around topics, on menshn you have a permanent place to go online to talk about the things you’re most interested in. Menshn quite simply caters for passions, and the best ideas are often the most simple ones."
However, menshn was greeted with a big "Meh" from many - who derided it on Twitter, naturally.
Former Labour deputy PM John Prescott joked : "Have decided to take on @louisemensch and #menshn by setting up my own social network. Will call it #prezsez." ®
