Blighty's largest iPad reseller formed in biz gobble deal

Trams swallows Cancom

Exclusive London-based reseller Trams Group has snapped up the UK operations of Cancom from its German parent Cancom AG for an undisclosed sum.

This is the second acquisition the Apple Authorised reseller has made - it took over Rapid Group in 2008 - since directors Warren Peel and Alex Page led an MBO nearly nine years ago.

The reseller operates in the B2B markets for Apple and said that as part of the buy it will look to "significantly expand" growth in the education space and with corporate businesses through the vendor's Enterprise Solutions.

Peel, who confirmed to El Reg that the deal was inked on the morning of 16 March, said its presence in the creative, new media, broadcast, finance, government and general biz IT markets would be boosted.

Page said in a statement: "Our expanded technical services division will be one of the largest of its kind in the UK. The division provides everything from workflow consultancy, contractual support, server and storage infrastructure installations to cross-platform Active Directory implementation."

In its last reported results for the year to 31 December 2010 Trams made a profit of £305,000, up 88 per cent on the previous twelve months as sales climbed 11.6 per cent to £19.1m.

During the same calendar year, Cancom posted losses of £326,000 compared to a profit of £94,000 in the previous year. Sales fell two per cent to £12.8m.

Trams is also an HP Gold Partner and holds accreditations for Lenovo, Net App, and Microsoft. ®
