A Melbourne restaurant is collecting its patrons' urine and turning it into fertiliser.

Smart Planet reports [1] that tulip farmer and green installation guru Joost Bakker's latest Greenhouse pop up restaurant has purpose-built loos which take the piss for later re-use.

The restaurant relies on canola oil and the wee is used to create canola-friendly fertiliser, closing the loop nicely. Bakker says wee makes great fertiliser - just 25 deposits can help a hectare of canola to grow.

Bakker's visit to Australia has also seen him build a house of straw, which escaped with all the hairs on it's chinny chin chin when set alight. The house used bales of the stuff as insulation for a steel frame, which then survived a simulated bushfire.

Bakker has blogged about that experiment here [2] .
