Samsung said in November 2011 that Android 4.0 - aka Ice Cream Sandwich - will be coming to its Galaxy S II [1] smartphone some time in 2012. It has yet to narrow that window, but industry leak merchant Eldar Murtazin has now said ICS will hit the S II in March.

Unsurprisingly, operator-tied handsets may have to wait a little longer for the upgrade, but Samsung's Kies software will begin flashing up the availability of the new OS on 1 March [2], Murtazin claimed in a Tweet today.

March seems to be the month for ICS updates: HTC will begin updating its smartphones [3] that month. Sony Ericsson has always said it wouldn't update its phones to ICS before then [4].

Google released its ICS code to phone and tablet makers in November 2011. ®
