Staying power

Browsing on the relatively small screen is helped by pinch to zoom capability with fast connection available from Wi-Fi or 3G. There’s also GPS backed by BlackBerry Maps and the on-board speaker proved to be crisp and clear, delivering perfectly fine call quality. The battery lasted fairly well too, delivering a good day and a half of solid use.

RIM BlackBerry Bold 9790 Qwerty Smartphone

BlackBerry faithful crowdpleaser with enough appeal for BBM newbies

Verdict

Down the scale from the BlackBerry Bold 9900, the Bold 9790 still offers fine value with a good quality screen, decent camera and excellent Qwerty keyboard. As far as apps go, RIM's BlackBerry handsets still have a lot of catching up to do with the likes of Apple and Android, even so BB OS 7 packs in a fair amount of functionality that'll satisfy BBM fans out-of-the-box. ®

Same old same old

So it's a bit better than one BB here and a bit worse than another BB there and a lightly smaller screen but a touchscreen.

Seems RIM can only improve one thing if they cut back on another thing. What would be wrong with the 9900 plus touchscreen?

Apps are overrated

Just look at the top selling apps and you'll notice 90%+ are games and entertainment, and not even good games.

What people actually use are a browser, email, facebook, twitter and youtube. If your device can do those well then really that covers almost everything that matters.

Yes, you enjoy your little colourful apps that waste time. Meanwhile I'll be productive and not use my phone as a toy ;)

iMessenger... great idea! It will be copied by BlackBerry I'm sure. ;)

Go ahead, feel smug and download another app. Isn't there an app for feeling smug? iSmug? ;)

"As far as apps go, RIM's BlackBerry handsets still have a lot of catching up to do"

that might have something to do with the teeny tiny screen size?
