David Cameron gets custom prime-ministering iPad app

Check NHS waiting lists, launch nukes - on the fondleslab

5 things you didn’t know about cloud backup

The crack coders assembled by the Cabinet Office have a new mission: making an iPad app for David Camerons.

The app will contain the latest figures on NHS waiting lists, crime, unemployment and other public sector data according to a report by The Times. It will also allow him to read Civil Service documents on the tablet and will pull in "real-time" information from Google and Twitter among other news sources. Advisers got the idea after a trip to the US.

But it seems it could take the gov coders three months to get it right. The app isn't expected to be ready till March according to the newspaper.

The Cabinet Office has been at the centre of the tech talent hire into government, announcing 28 new jobs and a £2m salary spend in October. Whitehall's new digital boss recently stated in a Digital by Default mission speech that making government web services sexy and "relentlessly" focused on users was a core priority.

So David Cameron can presumably expect a pretty exciting experience when he does get his hands on the app in 3 months time.

The app is likely to be made available more widely than just the prime minister and eventually be made publicly available. Minus the top-secret MI6 reports, buttons to launch nuclear missiles or have the SAS assassinate someone etc etc. ®
