HP invites just its best friends to 2012 partner bash

'We couldn't invite everybody'

HP's worldwide partner shindig in back on the agenda for 2012 but the event is likely to be a more cosy affair with fewer resellers invited.

The last global conference was held in San Francisco in April 2008 and resellers were keen to see the knees-up reinstated on the calendar on top of local events.

Now it's back in the diary, with a two-day gig set to be held in Las Vegas from 13 February. And given the gaffe-prone summer HP endured, channel partners could probably do with some face-to-face time with senior execs.

"I welcome the fact we are doing it, clearly there has been a lot of change in HP and the market so the time is right," said Kevin Matthews, UK and Ireland ESSN channel manager.

Depending on the agenda, partner conferences can provide a platform for reseller networking or equate to costly hours wasted outside of the office.

Matthews confirmed that CEO Meg Whitman and execs in charge of all business divisions will present at the conference but said the theme and the agenda is still being finalised though cloud will be a feature.

It seems though that HP is taking a leaf out of IBM's PartnerWorld gathering as not all top-tier Gold partners will be invited.

Numbers are still being finalised but Matthews said: "We couldn't invite everybody."

"HP wants to work with resellers that are prepared to invest in us so we will be more selective, I'm not hiding that," he told El Reg. ®
