Pierre Cardin reckons it can out-bling the iPad

Because what Apple lacks is style and brand value!

Fashion label Pierre Cardin has joined world+dog in trying to muscle in on the fondleslab phenomenon.

Billed as the "UK's first designer tablet", the Pierre Cardin PC 7006G – based on Android 2.3 – is being flogged for a penny short of £300, or roughly £100 less than it would cost to buy an entry-level iPad.

A product's spokesman tells The Reg that the shiny slate is "aimed at fashion-conscious females" between the ages of 18 and 34.

But price is not Pierre Cardin's only weapon; the PC 7006G also houses two USB ports and is compatible with flash. Can you hear Apple boss Tim Cook quaking in his iBoots?

Oh and it comes with a "tasteful case and uber-cool black gift box" which should impress the owner until they realise what's inside.

The kit is made by small Chinese assembler Shenzhen Vogue Industries Company Ltd which also builds white label telephones, mobile internet devices and GPS.

Distie eBusiness UK is seeking out foolhardy resellers willing to take on Apple, Samsung or the countless other IT vendors that have launched devices.

But Pierre Cardin should note that the market is already littered with the corpses of failed fondleslab vendors whose products were scarified at the altar of Jobs, including HP and Sharp – although Sharp's Galapagos didn't make it outside of Japan.

Cardin once designed a "muscle" car in conjunction with American Motors Corporation in the early '70s – the 1972 and 1973 model AMC Javelins – and more than 4,100 were produced in 1972/73. ®
