First-person shooter swaps guns for cameras
Point and shoot
Here's a new take on the first-person shooter videogame genre. Instead of running around capping people with guns, how about shooting them with a camera instead?
Warco - short for War Correspondant - does exactly that, putting gamers in the role of a dare-devil journalist who follows round troops at war , ArsTechnica reports.
The game, a work in progress from Brisbane-based studio Defiant Development , sees players experience the art of filming conflict, entering hostile environments with nothing more than a videocamera, then ultimately edit the footage afterwards into a news piece. Have a ganders at the clip below:
Marketing an FPS game in which this current gun-minded community doesn't actually kill anyone, is a difficult pitch. One unnamed producer told the studio that "it's a hard sell to executives to suggest an FPS with no shooting, but this is definitely the sort of game we should be making, as an industry".
I agree. The game has been in development for four months and Defiant is talking to publishers to bring the title to market. ®
