Google's next major Android release, Ice Cream Sandwich, will be out in the October-November timeframe, Eric Schmidt has revealed.
Speaking at Salesforce.com's Dreamforce conference earlier this month, Schmidt said: "We have a new operating system - which is known internally as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason - which is being released in October/November [and] which everyone is very excited about."
You can watch Schmidt's comment on Salesforce's YouTube channel [1], about 30 minutes in.
ICS - presumably Android 4.0 - is expected to unify Google's smartphone - Gingerbread - and tablet - Honeycomb - versions of Android, and it's telling that all of the tablets said to run Android 3.2 [2] when they were announced last week at the IFA consumer electronics show will be out in the same mid-Q4 period. ®
