Senetas gets UK foothold for crypto kit
SELEX Elsag targeting gov.uk customers
Australian network crypto hardware developer Senetas has announced an agreement with SELEX Elsag to supply kit into UK government contracts.
Back in May, Melbourne-based Senetas announced it was seeking CESG CAPS approval for its CN range of high-speed Ethernet and Fibre Channel crypto kit via its English subsidiary.
Under the agreement with SELEX Elsag, the British company will both distribute Senetas equipment, and also have the right to manufacture or re-badge hardware based on Senetas’ technology.
The two firms will also start work together developing a new encryptor to meet UK classified communications requirements.
Senetas’ kit already carries FIPS and Common Criteria EAL4+ certification. Its technology licensing plans with its UK partner may reflect already-challenging conditions for Australian manufacturers, with the meteoric rise in the Australian dollar in the last 12 months knocking hundreds of thousands of dollars off Senetas’ performance in the half-year that ended last February.
The company is looking to international markets for Layer 2 encryption to help it recover from the loss of a major Telstra consulting contract this year, when the carrier decided to take that business offshore.
In addition to its Ethernet, Fibre Channel and Sonet encryption products, Senetas has partnered with Swiss firm IdQuantique to produce quantum key distribution kit. ®
