Yahoo! Mail! users! complain! of! server! flatline!
Purple Palace remains silent, apart from the odd strangulated tweet
Many Yahoo! Mail users have been shunted off the service in the past few hours.
Complaints are piling up on Twitter and The Register has also heard from several disgruntled users of Yahoo! Mail.
A call into the company's London office proved fruitless this afternoon. We've left a message and will update this story if anyone does get in touch.
Meanwhile, Yahoo! has finally started tweeting about the technical cock-up that appears to be affecting many of its users based on stats over at the downrightnow website .
The Purple Palace had been silent for hours, despite the gripes.
An hour ago, it offered the following solitary tweet that says nothing about the current issues hampering its email service:
"Having trouble with your Yahoo Mail account? Here are some troubleshooting recommendations | http://bit.ly/iDEfDN".
In the last few minutes, Yahoo! Customer Care Twitter feed has finally come to life.
"We are aware that some Yahoo! users cannot sign-in or access e-mail and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible," it said .
Some have reported that they've been unable to access their email via the service for up to 12 hours.
Despite the many complaints that have been feeding the Twitter monster over the past few hours, Yahoo!'s customer care team initially had its eyes and ears clamped shut.
"Hi MaryRose, no we have no reports of any mail server outage. What error message do you get when you try to access e-mail?" it said on Twitter about one hour ago. Oops. ®
