Isilon's iSCSI here to stay, insiders insist...quietly

Rumours of EMC Isilon abandoning iSCSI support in its scale-out filers have been denied by an EMC source

Isilon's OneFS operating system for its clustered, scale-out filers, had iSCSI block access added in August 2010, before EMC bought the company.

The EMC Isilon website has iSCSI material available on it, including a December 2010 white paper, The Isilon Best Practices Guide for the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator. Its first sentence reads: "The implementation of the iSCSI protocol within Isilon IQ brings unified storage capability to Isilon."

There is also a video available on the website, which has Nick Kirsch, Director of Product Management, talking about the addition of iSCSI and what it means.

A source within EMC said he asked a question about shutting off iSCSI support months ago and "Isilon said all the work on it has been completed so why shut it off?" He rechecked today and said: "Negative from Isilon on dropping iSCSI support."

There you have it; Isilon and iSCSI are inseparable. ®
