Agentless Backup is Not a Myth

Sony is expected to drop the price of the PlayStation 3 this August, keeping the console within affordable reach of its rivals.

Industry experts and publishers have come forth with predictions that the price drop will bring the PS3 down to £200 [1] and will probably be announced at Gamescom in August, MCV reports.

Analysts have been making the price-cut prediction [2] for a while now and it's hard to see them as anything but 'bleedin' obvious' award candidates.

Despite last year's boom in motion-controlled gaming, chart-track data puts the software market down by over £50m year-on-year. Plus, with rivals already lowering their prices, it would be illogical if Sony didn't follow suit.

Nintendo recently dropped the Wii's RRP [3], with some retailers now selling for under £100. This could be lowered even further by the end of the year in preparation for Ninty's next platform, Wii U [4].

The expected price cut could help boost sales of the PS3, which Sony insists will survive its projected ten year life span [5]. We'll let you know when we get official word. ®
