Metropolitan police officers working for Operating Weeting have arrested a woman in West Yorkshire.

The investigation into alleged voicemail hacking by the News of the World was reopened earlier this year [1] after the Met said it received significant new information.

The 39-year-old woman was arrested at a residential address in West Yorkshire at 6.55 this morning. She is being interviewed at a nearby police station on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications, contrary to Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977.

The Met statement [2] said it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.

The Guardian reports she is not a reporter.

The original investigation led to prison sentences for two men [3] found guilty of intercepting voicemails. ®
