Impatient punters trade PS3s for Xbox 360s
I want network now!
Retailers say PS3 consoles are being exchanged in record numbers as a result of the PlayStation Network outage.
In an interview with Edge magazine , an unnamed store manager from a major UK retailer said: “In the first week of downtime we did not really see any major change in sales or trades... However from the second week onwards we have seen an increase of over 200 per cent on PS3 consoles being traded in, split almost 50:50 between those trading for cash and those taking a 360 instead."
It's painful enough having your backdoor broken into, then being publicly humiliated for allowing it happen, but Sony customers jumping ship to its archrival must really bring a sting to the tale.
Not only are people trading-in, but they're not buying as many PS3 consoles either. Ouch.
Sony says the network should be running again by the end of the month, but how many sales will it miss or lose by then? With Kinect games set to triple this year , and popular titles such as Black Ops' receiving DLC content first on the Xbox 360 platform, for how long is Sony's slump going to continue? ®
