Supermarkets have taken over the grocery industry, DVD rental services and even the car insurance business, so it should come as little surprise they now dominate the mobile phone market too. In fact, supermarkets offer a better mobile phone service than the more established telcos, it seems.
According to a survey conducted by Which?, customers on conventional telcos, including Orange, T-Mobile and Three, were more dissatisfied with their service than those who signed up to a supermarket alternative.
The poll asked 8000 punters to rate their providers on customer service, handset range, cost to use in the UK, cost to use abroad and clarity/accuracy of bills.

Where monthly contracts were concerned, Tesco Mobile lead the way with a "customer score" of 74 per cent, beating second placed O2, on 61 per cent. Three was in last place with a lowly 49 per cent score.
For pay-as-you-go, the supermarkets again fronted the pack. This time, Asda took first place with 78 per cent, while Tesco Mobile also ranked high at 66 per cent. Traditional telcos lagged, with T-Mobile propping up the table at just 51 per cent.

yes but...
...coming to the end of a 2 year contract - I've worked out that the best way to ensure that you don't end up with an antique albatross around your neck is:
1. Buy a bleeding edge phone outright.
2. Get whichever 30 day (12 month if you must) SIM only Contract that represents best value.
3. Enjoy.

Seeing as you asked nicely.
I think Which? surveys are a waste of space.
Maybe I've been extremely lucky but it always appears that whenever I've had a product or car that has done really badly in a Which? survey it's been absolutely no trouble at all.
I lost faith in the magazine and can't take its surveys seriously.
