Google CEO Larry Page makes his mark in management rejig

In through the social out door

Customer Success Testimonial: Recovery is Everything

While Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg was waving his new racks in Google's face yesterday, the Mountain View Chocolate Factory's new helmsman Larry Page was reportedly rejigging his management underlings.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a reorganisation of top Google wonks has already taken place, just days after Page returned as the company's CEO.

Google told the newspaper that Page had made changes to the firm's product and engineering structures and had fingered individual leaders, who previously held various general manager roles, to head up each group.

To that end, he promoted Andy Rubin as Google's new senior veep of mobile. Vic Gundotra, perhaps unsurprisingly given his association with the firm's projects such as Buzz and Wave, becomes the company's senior vice president of Google's social division.

Chrome's new senior veep is Sundar Pichai, while Salar Kamangar becomes senior veep of YouTube and video. Alan Eustace has taken on the ever-important search wing of Google, and Susan Wojcicki now oversees the web kingpin's ads.

Decision-making within each division will be more autonomous.

"The idea is to empower people, let them take risks and give them more authority over decisions," one anonymous source familiar with the matter told the LA Times.

Page's fellow founder, Sergey Brin, has an office next door to the CEO in the Googleplex. He is working on the company's business strategy. ®

Business strategy being:

1) Appear to do no evil.

2) Do evil.

3) Profit.

I suppose

"The idea is to empower people, let them take risks and give them more authority over decisions,".

Was what Nokia tried, or should have tried to do, and failed, and should try to do again, without failing again.

Rejigging his management underlings?

Probably needs a looser pair of underpants...
