Interwebs stunned by musical atrocity
iTunes cash rains down on 'fun, loving' auto-tuned teen
I'd really like to thank the Beeb this afternoon for flagging up Rebecca Black 's Friday, which has become a bit of a hit down at iTunes despite provoking the desire to tear your ears off with pliers.
"Fun, loving, 13 year old" Rebecca has proved that you can sell just about anything if you get a net buzz going, even if that buzz largely consists of astounded music-lovers decrying the "worst song ever".
Here is that song, with just the merest smidge of auto-tune:
Friday hit iTunes last Monday, and has since been heading steadily towards the top of the charts (lying at No 25 as of publication, four ahead of Justin Bieber's latest, though slightly cheaper at $0.99). As one satisfied customer put it: "I was going through so much pain in my life and considered ending it all, but then I heard this song. You saved my life, Rebecca. Thank you for creating such an inspiring piece of music."
We sincerely hope this is the same punter whose wrote a sensational review of Katie Price and Peter Andre's A Whole New World back in 2007. If not, it's time to permanently unplug the internet and head for the hills. ®
