Dell: Alienware m11x hinge crisis closure near
Fix coming even if your PC's out of warranty
Problems some punters have experience with the hinges on the Alienware M11x gaming laptop may soon be sorted out, at long last.
He couldn't be more specific than that, he admitted, because the precise date will depend on a "third-party vendor" getting, we guess, the replacement parts to Dell and its Alienware subsidiary. Said third-party is believed to be Flextronics, if past posts from Mr M are anything to go by.
However, he promised that "all who have the hinge defect will get it repaired regardless of the warranty end date".
Online forums have been home to grumbling M11x owners since July 2010, when some punters began claiming the gaming laptop's hinges were mis-aligned, causing screen damage - cracks in the plastic, for example - and further problems with the hinges.
Originally, Dell advised that the problem would not be fixed for out-of-warranty machines, but that now appears to have changed. It only appears to have formally acknowledged the problem in November 2010, though it wouldn't say at the time what it planned to do about the issue.
Now we know, sort of, though that won't come as much relief to m11x owners who've been waiting up to six months for a fix. About time, Dell. ®
