LaCie [1] has introduced its take on Apple's Time Capsule [2]. The French firm's offering is the 2TB Wireless Space, an black-clad 2.4GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi base-station with built-in hard drive.

In addition to handling router duties, the Wireless Space has a UPnP/DLNA and iTunes servers. It's also compatible with Mac OS X's Time Machine automatic back-up system.
There are three USB ports for additional storage, and three Gigabit Ethernet ports for wire-connected clients.

The LaCie Wireless Space [3] is available now, £180 for the 1TB model and £250 for the 2TB version - considerably cheaper than the Apple offering. ®
