UK set-top box maker TVonics [1] has announced its first Freeview HD [2] DVR.

The twin-tuner, 500GB capacity DTR-HD500 [3] not only sports HDMI output, but it also packs in a pair of HDMI inputs, allowing users to feed the DVR and two other players to their telly through a single cable.
That's handy if you want as little spaghetti as possible dangling down from the back or sides of your flat panel, or your telly only has one or two HDMI ports.

The TVonics box also has a pair of USB ports - one for software updates, the other for external content-storage devices.
The software update facility will be useful to update boxes with Dolby Surround Sound support which, while not present on the DTR-HD500s shipping now, will be made available for free later next month.

The DTR-HD500 costs £280 from high street retailers and direct from TVonics - which will throw in a two-year warranty. ®
