Sony UK [1] has posted PlayStation 3 firmware version 3.42 [2]. The update incorporates a "patch... added to address security vulnerability in the system software".

PSJailbreak [3], PSGroove [4] et al now disabled, do you think?

Any console owner worried that the new system software will indeed prevent the USB dongle - and the code that replicated the add-in's ability to trick a shop-sold console into behaving like a software development box - from working can avoid installing the update.

The snag: they'll lose PlayStation Network access if they do. ®
