TalkTalk is to launch its own mobile phone service, thanks to a deal with Vodafone UK.
The company is launching a range of SIM only voice and data tariffs later in the summer. Given its track record with home broadband and landlines, we anticipate highly competitive pricing.
In cellco parlance, this tie-in makes TalkTalk an MVNO or mobile virtual network operator, just like Virgin Mobile, which piggybacks off T-Mobile UK, and Tesco Mobile, which relies on O2 for the heavy lifting.
TalkTalk used to be part of Carphone Warehouse but demerged from the retail group earlier this year to be a pure play telecommunications company. The company claims 4.2 million broadband customers.
