John Lewis 'leaks' Apple iPod refresh details, say reports
Actually, no it didn't
Claims that UK department store chain John Lewis today let slip what Apple is preparing for the annual September iPod refresh are bollocks... probably.
We were there when the besuited buyer of audio products for the chain's 29 shops and online business said he didn't know what Apple was planning to announce but was making a wild stab in the dark based on rumours, "noises we’re hearing" and - not unreasonably - what Apple has shown with the iPhone 4 .
To whit, he believes the iPod Touch will get a flash-equipped 5Mp camera that can take HD video. It may also have a front-facing camera to allow owners to engage in the practice known as "FaceTime".
The new Touch will feature enhanced accelerometers and a gyroscope, the buyer believes.
The John Lewis man didn't say as much, but we expect Apple will give the gadget a more iPhone 4-style design, too. And iOS 4.
All this prompted immediate whoops of scoop joy among the many younger hacks there gathered, but that doesn't change the fact that the 'revelations' were the guy's intelligent speculation.
He didn't forecast what the Cupertino company will do with the Nano or the Shuffle, so we think he's taking a punt based on the iPhone 4 specs and how iPhone components have, in the past, made it down to the Touch .
In that respect, he's likely to be correct. But if he's proven correct, it's savvy guesswork, not inside information. ®
