A Google engineering director and key player in the company's Chrome OS and WebGL projects has quit Mountain View in favour of a job over at Facebook.

Matthew Papakipos confirmed [1] on Twitter yesterday that he had made the move.

"Now that Chrome OS & WebGL are in good shape, it's time for something new. I'm going to work @ Facebook! Love the product and team. Woot!" he blurted.

Papakipos is the latest in a series of Mountain View workers that Facebook has lured away. The firm's most recent ex-Googler was Nexus One phone product manager Erick Tseng.

The Mark Zuckerberg-led website also confirmed yesterday that it had hired VMWare veep Jocelyn Goldfein.

“We’ve landed two accomplished, senior people to join the Facebook engineering team - Matthew Papakipos and Jocelyn Goldfein,” said [2] the company. “Both are about as accomplished as they come and we can’t wait for them to hit the ground running as key players on the team.” ®
