Technisat HDFS Freesat HD receiver

First wireless iPlayer box, apparently

Playing files from a USB or memory card isn't quite as problem-free as it might have been either, as it will only recognise MP3 audio files, MPEG2 video files and JPEG pictures, so you're severely limited in the variety of media you can use it for.

Technisat HDFS

Media playback would definitely benefit from supporting a broader range of formats

Verdict

TechniSat's HDFS is a good-looking, reasonably priced device that delivers a decent level of service as far as Freesat TV is concerned, though its networking capabilities aren't quite as fully realised as we'd have liked. It's USP as the only device which can deliver BBC iPlayer via Freesat over a wireless connection will certainly appeal to anyone whose wireless router isn't near their telly, but otherwise there's not much to distinguish it. ®
