Spotify goes social, digs into your PC
Facebook love, iTunes challenge
Spotify today introduced the Spotify Music Profile , to enable users to share music with their friends.
The site upgrade includes music management for the PC through a library function. In other words you could play music from your iTunes library and build playlists from PC and Spotify through the Spotify player. Neat, huh!
Spotify Music Profile is all very Web 2.0: build a list of friends, through Facebook, if you like.
You can also add other Spotify users by searching for them by username (if they have published their profile). By publishing your profile, you let your friends follow and share your music tastes.
Spotify describes itself as Europe's premier paid subscription service. It is easily the most important music site in the UK - and I am sure that my teenage kids will jump on the friendly sharing. My wife too enjoys sharing music with her friends - right now she is most likely to forward Youtube links.
But for me, Spotify Library is the more interesting innovation - to the extent that I am almost, nearly, but not quite, ready to take out a subscription.
