Humax and the BBC have extended their iPlayer offering [1] to all of the manufacturer's Freesat set-top boxes, making the catch-up service available through remotes' red buttons.
Both the Foxsat-HD and Foxsat-HDR need to be connected to the internet through a wired link to your broadband router. Once tuned into a BBC channel, pressing the red button calls up the BBC homepage where there's a link to iPlayer.
Alternatively, enter '7001' on the remote and press OK.
The iPlayer [2]-on-Freesat offering is still considered to be in a pre-release, beta stage by the BBC, which launched the service late last year, initially on Humax's Foxsat DVR [3]. In January, the beta programme was extended to Sony TVs [4] with integrated Freesat tuners. Presumably, they too can now access iPlayer through the red button.
Allowing iPlayer to be accessed from the red button menu is a major step toward making the service more widely available.
Freesat has promised it will support ITV Player at some point during H1 2010. ®
