A New York chef is offering samples of cheese made from his wife's breast milk with the promise that it's "100 per cent organic, free range and foie gras fed".

Lori Mason, wife of Klee Brasserie host Daniel Angerer, is now encouraging her husband to use her mam product to make gelato.

But NYC health officials are trying to put the squeeze on Mason saying that the prime ingredient is "not intended for adults or wide public consumption".

Angerer apparently blogged about his breast milk cheese recipe last week, prompting a steady stream of comment and restaurant visits ever since.

Much of this has been critical, though there has been a trickle of potential punters who say they were not breast fed as children, and hoped Mason and Angerer could show them what all the fuss is about.

Mason has warned "I'm not here to walk people through their psychological problems" according to the New York Post.

She speculated that much of the criticism appears to be down to "the combination of sex and cheese" clearly a taboo pairing amongst New York diners.

For his part, Angerer points out that he hasn't actually put the breast milk cheese on his menu, though he has offered a jub juice canape to some customers.

"It tastes like cows milk cheese, kind of sweet," he told the Post, adding that the flavour depends on what it's served with. His recommendation is a Riesling. ®
