Topfield Freeview HD set-top announced

Coming to UK under Icecrypt brand

Security for virtualized datacentres

The latest in this spring’s crop of Freeview HD receivers, the Icecrypt T2200, has just been announced. A standard ‘zapper’ box, it supports the new DVB-T2 standard, and will receive both SD and HD terrestrial channels.

The HDMI output supports resolutions up to 1080i, and the box also sports twin Scarts for connection to older TVs and VCRs. There’s also the mandatory Ethernet port for future interactive services via Freeview HD’s MHEG engine, and an optical audio output.

Unusually for a Freeview box, there are also twin CI slots, so the box will work with EPSN and other pay services that may come to Freeview after Ofcom’s pay-TV review is concluded. There’s also a front-facing USB port, allowing playback of JPEG, DivX and MP3 files, and we’re told that support in a forthcoming firmware build will add basic recording functionality if you have a hard disk connected, too.

Although branded Icecrypt, we understand that the guts of the receiver are from Topfield. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to be around £160 when the unit goes on sale in late March. Reg Hardware has a prototype and we’ll be doing a full preview shortly. ®
