Toshiba preps 3D BD player for Q3 release

The Power of One Brief: Top reasons to choose HP BladeSystem

CES 2010 Toshiba's first 3D-capable Blu-ray Disc player will go in sale no earlier than the third quarter of the year, the company said today.

Q3 is the US launch window, which probably means we won't see the BDX300 over hear until Q4 at the earliest.

We can say it will support 24f/s 1080p playback of 2D material, upscale standard definition footage and play AVCHD and WMA content from camcorders and downloads, all fed out through its HDMI port. It will support BD Live online additions to discs.

In addition to the customary Ethernet port, the player may also be able to go online through a Wi-Fi wireless network.

In the US, the player will be able to source content from online providers Netflix, Cinema Now and Vudu. It's not yet know which equivalent services the European version of the player will connect to, but we hope to learn more when Toshiba spills the beans on its European product release programme next month. ®
